Hospital & Clinic Website Development: What Patients Need to See

Short answer: a hospital website should answer four questions within seconds — do you treat my condition, who is the doctor, where and when can I see them, and how do I book? Everything else supports those four. Patients usually arrive on a phone, often anxious, and many prefer Hindi.

Who visits a hospital website

  • Patients and families who have just received a diagnosis or a referral.
  • People from nearby towns checking whether they must travel to the city.
  • Referring doctors checking a specialist's qualifications.
  • Families comparing costs, schemes and insurance options.

Each group needs different pages, so a single long home page is not enough.

Pages every hospital or clinic website needs

PageWhat it answers
Condition pages (one per condition)"Do you treat this?" — symptoms to watch for, how it is treated, when to see a doctor
Treatment pagesWhat the procedure involves, recovery and what to expect
Doctor profilesQualifications, training, experience and OPD days
Centre / location pagesAddress, map, OPD schedule and phone for each branch
Schemes & insuranceAyushman Bharat PM-JAY, state schemes, CGHS/ECHS, TPA
Patient guideFirst visit, documents to bring, second opinion
Book appointmentA short form, WhatsApp and a call button

Write for worried readers

  • Use plain words first and medical terms second ("cancer of the voice box (laryngeal cancer)").
  • Keep paragraphs short and put the next step — call, WhatsApp, book — on every page.
  • Avoid guarantees and superlatives. Describe what is done, not promised outcomes.
  • Publish patient stories only with written consent.
  • Have a doctor review every medical page and show the reviewer's name.

Hindi and English

In Uttar Pradesh many patients and families read Hindi more comfortably than English. A full Hindi version — not a machine-translated widget — builds trust and also helps the hospital appear for Hindi searches. Each English page should link to its Hindi twin and the other way round, with hreflang tags so Google shows the right language.

Booking that works on a phone

  1. A sticky Call and WhatsApp button on mobile.
  2. A booking form with only name, phone, centre and concern.
  3. Record which page the booking came from, so you know which content brings patients.
  4. A separate, clearly marked emergency number.

Local search for every centre

If the hospital runs OPDs in several towns, give each centre its own page with full address, OPD days and directions, and keep the same name, address and phone on Google Business Profile. Add MedicalClinic or Hospital and Physician structured data so search engines understand the pages.

Real example: CoreOnco

For CoreOnco, a surgical-oncology hospital in Lucknow with OPDs in Hardoi, Sitapur, Raebareli, Amethi and Lakhimpur Kheri, we organised the site the way patients search — by cancer type, treatment, doctor and centre — with an affordability section for government schemes and insurance, and a full Hindi version. Book Appointment, WhatsApp and a 24×7 emergency number are one tap away on every page.

Checklist before launch

  • Every condition and treatment has its own page, reviewed by a doctor.
  • Every doctor has a profile with qualifications and OPD days.
  • Every centre has a page with address and timings.
  • Booking, call and WhatsApp work on a ₹10,000 Android phone.
  • Hindi pages are linked to English pages.
  • Privacy policy explains how patient enquiries are stored.

Frequently asked questions

Should a hospital website be in Hindi?

In Hindi-speaking regions, yes. A proper Hindi version helps patients understand treatment options and helps the hospital appear in Hindi searches.

Can patients book appointments on the website?

Yes — through a short form, WhatsApp or a call button. Keep the form to name, phone, centre and concern.

How many pages does a hospital website need?

One page per condition, treatment, doctor and centre, plus booking, schemes and a patient guide. A multi-speciality hospital can easily need 50 or more pages.
